Since its creation the online organization dedicated to disclosing secret and classified information has been a subject of heated debates. However lately WikiLeaks was faced with an particularly extensive opposition. Some “democratic” governments have dedicated lots of time and effort in bringing down the controversial website.

Chased from various lands and prompted by this massive offensive, the investors decided to literally move the servers offshore. The company is currently in the process of purchasing a large sea vessel, by which to carry the site’s servers in a location where it cannot be pursued by US authorities.

The people who finance WikiLeaks have decided that it would be best if they move the servers in international waters. In this case, WikiLeaks can continue to work without being prosecuted, because international waters are only governed by maritime law.

Right now most of the website servers are positioned in Sweden and Iceland. However it is assumed that they would be relocated to the Principality of Sealand – British anti-aircraft platform from the times of the Second World War. This platform is located in the North Sea, and in 1967 proclaimed as a monarchy state by Paddy Roy Bates.

The interesting twist might be the fact that the lack of sovereignty in Sealand would also give a green light for any annoyed governments to take actions against WikiLeaks. Technically there is no law that could stop anyone from blowing WikiLeaks servers out of the water with impunity because such action would not affect any other state. So, we should definitely expect some more exciting development to the story.
