Men’s Fashion Trends Fall 2012

We are presenting you top men’s trends for the fall 2012, which can be easily integrated into your daily wardrobe.

Stylish outerwear

Both Milan and New fashion trends presented the outerwear as the rising trend. While Milan primarily focused on capes and pony-hair overcoats, New York offers nautical toggle coats, topcoats made from wool and tweed, structured pea coats performed in neutral colors. Owing to the rich textures, various patterns, bright colors and collar designing, these coats would help you stand out from the crowd.

How to wear
Despite the great variety of shades and styles, military style is still prevailing in the latest collections. Military style is seen both in details like metal buttons and in the whole designing of outerwear. Notable designers from Tommy Hilfiger to Tod Snyder included double-breasted overcoats in their menswear collections. A double-breasted coat in the neutral color shade is a clear sign of class, power and style, besides it never goes out of trend.

Classic suits

Simon Spurr, Joseph Abboud and Ermengildo Zegna clearly stated that formal wear like suits is still very actual in the wardrobe of the modern man. We mean the classical suits in particular. No matter what fabric the suit would be made from (corduroy, velvet or a houndstooth pattern), it should be tailed to a T and grab everyone’s attention.

How to wear
If you don’t want to spend extra hundred bucks on another suit in your wardrobe, you can upgrade your old one by taking it to the tailor. But keep in minds that the shoulders should feel snug and touch the bottom of your jacket having the arms at the sides. Additional accessories like a fine leather bag or an umbrella will present you as a stylish guy.

Bright colors

Seemed like red was the designers’ favorite color during the New York fashion week. Tommy Hilfiger’s collection was highlighted by the burgundy military coats, while Michael Bastian was more courage with using red color by demonstrating bright red pants coupled with red-striped sweater. As for Milan fashion week, this time the wider variety of the different colors was presented. Fratelli Rosetti created shoes in the rich shades like emerald, plum and simple red, while Gucci’s show was distinguished with muted tones of navy, burgundy and emerald.

How to wear
Even if you don’t like heightened attention to yourself and belong to the shy type of person, you can still follow this color trend by opting for the deep purple shoes instead of simple black ones, adding a pocket square of the bright color or purchasing a plum tie. These little details are able to present you as a trendy man and change your whole look tremendously.

Original textures

Both Milan and New York shows were rich of various touch-worthy textures. Velvet was the favorite across the Atlantic, while tweeds, wool and fur were trendy on both sides. John Varvatos kept it to his usual style and included mohair sweaters and fur coats to his latest collection, which he presented at Milan fashion show. Michael Kors in turn added some fur to the traditional tweeds.

How to wear
The most common style mistake is overloading the look with different colors and textures. Interesting texture would perfectly complement a monochromatic look, so coupling velvet jacket with tweed pants is a big prohibition. Opt for a simpler combination by adding just one texture accent.

Layers

Layering is not only conquering female collections, but is also becoming popular for the menswear. Joseph Abboud perfectly demonstrated that layering of different pieces of the same color shades is the best way to augment a monochromatic look. So, Burberry Prorsum also revealed this trend showing that fine suit can be complemented by the trench.

How to wear
The safest way to layering is sticking to neutral colors. Layering is the perfect way to interest any look. Put on a nubby wool blazer along with thick-knit scarf of the same color.
